Below is an attachment which details the services being held in local churches in memory of HM The Queen.
A book of condolence to remember the life of the late Queen will be available in the village hall for parishioners to sign on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week (13-15 September) from 1700 – 1900hrs.
After yesterday’s tragic news of the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth, the ECB has advised that all recreational cricket should go ahead from Saturday. The clubs and players will show full respect to Her Majesty including one minutes silence before each game. As a consequence, the planned events detailed below will take place.
Aston Rowant first team won the Home Counties Premier League for the first time in its history with a win over High Wycombe last Saturday. It triggered a party which will be remembered by all who attended.
The second team finished level at the top of the Cherwell League Division One, but ended up second to Banbury as it won one more game than ARCC did. ARCC finished second which was in itself a magnificent result.
The league season has now finished but there is one last event – two games on the top pitch on Saturday followed by the return of Presidents Day.
In detail, at 10am we will have a game between Aston Rowant legends featuring some old and some not so old players. And at 12pm we have a game between Aston Rowant XI and the Presidents Select XI. The bar will be open at 11am – please come and join in the celebrations of the League title win.
The games will finish early as from 7pm we have the End of Season Ball at Chinnor Rugby Club.
As a mark of respect and because of the mourning period, the parish council meeting next Wednesday, 14 September, has been cancelled.
Navigate to Your Community > The Church to find details of the services in the church in September, along with details of contacts for weddings, baptisms and funerals.
The county council is holding ‘Oxfordshire Conversation’ events in September to give residents the chance to ask decision makers questions and share their priorities to help it shape its budget.
There’s a mix of online and venue events.

This weekend is the last of the league season and it is coming to a massive climax. Simply put, if the 1st team win on Saturday they will win the Home Counties League for the first time, but they must win otherwise their opponents High Wycombe will finish above them. The support from the villages this year has been very much appreciated and the more we can get to come and support on Saturday to cheer on the team the better. The bar will be open from 1pm and Ben’s pizza’s will be available later in the afternoon.
But the first team are not the only team chasing a league championship. If the 2nd team win and their rivals Banbury 2nd lose, they will also win their league – Cherwell League Division 1. So it could be a party on Saturday night.
On the bottom field the 4th team will host local rivals Watlington 1st team from 12.30.
As we move to the last two weeks of the league season the first team are top of their league and two wins will guarantee a first ever Home Counties Premiership title. This week they are away at Oxford so best wishes to them.
At Butts Way we have the second and third teams at home. The second team still has a chance of winning the Cherwell League Divison 1, but it will need the current leaders to lose a game.
The weekend starts with the normal junior training from 6pm on Friday with the bar opens as usual.
On Saturday 27th August we have Aston Rowant 2nd v Long Marston 1st on the top pitch, starting at 12.00 and Aston Rowant 3rd v Chearsley 1st on the bottom pitch starting at 12.00.
On Sunday 28th we have an under 11 tournament on both fields from 10 am.
And on Monday 29th the 3rd team will play their cup final against Hook Norton 1st team at Abingdon Vale.
More details on all of the above are on astonrowantcc.com.
