Ibstone show and fete
Ibstone is holding its annual show and fete on Saturday 3 August at 1300hrs.
The event is being held on Ibstone Common.

ARCC this weekend
/in News/by Adam BernsteinAfter the weather caused everything to be cancelled last weekend, here’s hoping we get a full weekend this time around.
Friday night will see the usual junior training, bar and BBQ.
On Saturday, the second and fourth teams are at home to Dinton first team and Westcott second team respectively; the first team are away at Finchampstead and the third team are away playing Westcott’s first team.
On Sunday, the fourth team are playing East and West Hendred second team in the semi final of their league cup.
The bar will be open from 2pm on both days.
Free and low-cost activities for kids
/in News/by Adam BernsteinGirls’ football, fun activity days, skateboarding and pickleball are just some of the free and low-cost activities available for children and their families to enjoy during the summer holidays.
South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils are hosting activities and events at locations across the area from 19 July to 31 August.
The councils’ Active Communities team are providing a series of free Xplorer sessions, ‘Born to Move’ fitness and dance sessions and lots more for young children.
Girls aged 5 to 11 have the chance to get involved with football, make new friends and have fun during Girls’ Football sessions, perfect for those who want to give the sport a go for the very first time or with others their own age.
The whole family can come together to enjoy Fun Days, with activities including tag games, cricket, Danish longball, lawn games and more.
Skateboarding and scooter enthusiasts can enjoy competitions, games, prizes and more at the popular Summer of Skate skateboarding events which take place throughout the summer.
The annual Didcot Garden Party will see lots of events for the whole family taking place from 27 July to 31 August, including musical workshops and performances during Fusion Fest, Communities Come Together Day and Junior Bootcamp sessions.
There will also be a series of Play Days for children, young people and their families hosted by The Oxfordshire Play Association.
The popular Litterbug Detective Trails returns to six locations across the Vale and South Oxfordshire from 19 July to 11 August. Follow the trails and answer the questions about waste and recycling – you could be in with the chance of winning a great prize!
The activities are expected to be very popular so, where required, book now to avoid disappointment.

Solar farm meeting 17 July
/in News/by Adam BernsteinSolar2 are holding a public drop-in event on Wednesday 17th July from 4.30pm – 8.30pm at Lewknor Village Hall. There it will share its plans for a solar farm which will be on both sides of the M40 on land at London Road, Lewknor. During the event, individuals will be able to share their views and feedback on the proposal.
Solar2 are proposing a 49.9MW solar farm over an area of approximately 83 hectares, (206 acres) on agricultural land for a duration of 40 years.

Local cycling challenge from Kingston Blount Estate
/in News/by Adam BernsteinGlorious Gravel is a running a cycling challenge on Saturday 6th July 2024.
The route is a 63 mile loop starting and finishing at the Kingston Blount Estate using a mix of public roads, byways and bridleways in the local area. There will be no road closures or restrictions to other users on the roads or trails during the event.
The event is not a race and there is no mass start. Riders will receive a full brief before the event which includes, amongst other things, the expectation of respecting the rules of the road and obeying the highway code/countryside code.

ARCC this weekend
/in News/by Adam BernsteinThere’s another busy weekend of activity at the cricket club. Following the demand from last week we have a new BBQ which will be on duty on Friday and Saturday nights this week.
On the field we have games on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. On Saturday the first team are at home to Great Brickhill starting at 11.30, and the third team are at home to our local rivals Tetsworth on the bottom field. The second and fourth teams are away to Horspath and Bicester and North Oxford respectively.
The second team will then host Horspath on Sunday in the Pullinger Cup and so will play them twice in two days.
The bar will be open Friday night, Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening. Let’s hope the weather holds.
Playground update
/in News/by Adam BernsteinWe are absolutely delighted to be able to confirm that we have raised a grand total of £60,359.31 (including the money for the new fence) and therefore we are now able to start the works for Phase 1 (inside the fenced area) of the project with our chosen supplier – Discovery Timber Play.
The works for Phase 1 will be undertaken from Tuesday 9th – Friday 19th July (approximately). This will include the removal and replacement of damaged equipment, the addition of new playground equipment and furniture and the restoration of existing items that will be kept.
Rescheduled dates for the cleaning of the playground will be confirmed shortly and further information on the delivery of Phase 2 (installation of the Zip Wire and picnic benches outside the fenced area) will be provided in due course.
We have been blown away by the amount of support we have received, especially from within the community having received £1,354.16 from individual donations, raised £6,604.13 from events and we have also been financially supported by both the Aston Rowant Parish Council and Hillwerke Recreation Trust as well.
There aren’t enough words to convey our most heart felt thanks to you all for supporting us and recognising the significance of restoring and preserving this much loved, well used community asset.
We now look forward to preparing for delivery and providing a safe and stimulating playground facility to local children and young families.
