Berkshire Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust training

Thursday, 19th Sep 2024/in News/by Adam Bernstein

The Berkshire Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust’s Community Network was set up last year to help support groups already up and running in the three counties, as well as to inspire people to start their own community groups and take action for nature.

This year it received lottery funding for this project, which means it can look to expand its reach across the three counties, and host more events bringing people together. There’s more detail about the Community Network in https://www.bbowt.org.uk/news/community-network-wildlife-wins-ps83000-lottery-boost

Over the next few months it is focusing on Oxfordshire and how it can reach more community groups, and individuals, who care about nature. The network is running a series of free workshops across the county, with our first event being plant identification in Cholsey this Saturday, 21 September. To sign up to this and our other events, see the events page here: https://www.bbowt.org.uk/communitynetworkevents

ARCC this weekend

Thursday, 5th Sep 2024/in News/by Adam Bernstein
This weekend sees the climax of the cricket season and what a finish. There are four teams who can win the Premier League of the Home Counties and by a stroke of fate all four are playing each other in the last league game of the season. One of the teams is ARCC first who are currently second and are at home to the High Wycombe fourth team. The game starts at 11.00.
Henley, who are third, are at home to the current leaders Finchhampton. Whilst the permutations are complicated, we must beat High Wycombe to have any chance. So all support would be appreciated – if we win it could be a night to remember.
The third team will be at home to Oxenford whilst the second and fourth teams are away at Westbury and Buckingham respectively.
Also, Saturday is not the only important date of the weekend. On Friday as well as the last junior training night we have the always popular junior awards night together with bar and BBQ.
On Wednesday, the 11th, we will host two games in the Over 50’s 40 over Cup. On the top field Cornwall will play Essex starting at 12 noon. At the same time Oxfordshire third team will play Hampshire third team in the plate final.
And finally, next Saturday, 14 September we have the annual President’s match followed by the club ball.

ARCC this weekend

Thursday, 29th Aug 2024/in News/by Adam Bernstein
As we move to the last two weeks of the league season all of our senior teams are involved in important games this weekend. The first team, who are third in their league, still have a chance of winning the Premier League. All of the other teams are still possibly in relegation danger and yet one win in the last two games will probably see them safe.
This weekend the first team are away at Great Brickhill on Saturday, and the third team travel to our near neighbours Tetsworth. The second team and fourth teams are at home to Horspath and Bicester and North Oxford respectively. The weather forecast is good and your support for the teams would be appreciated.
On Friday we have a special junior night with games on both grounds on Friday evening as well as the usual BBQ and bar. Next Friday is the junior presentation night which is always a special night.
Another special night will be on September 14 and our annual ball. Details of this and all events are on the club web site, astonrowantcricket.co.uk

Riverside outdoor pool and splashpad

Wednesday, 28th Aug 2024/in News/by Adam Bernstein

A note from SODC:

There is great news for children and families looking to cool down in the summer sunshine before the end of the school holidays.

GLL, which manage the outdoor pool and splash pad on behalf of South Oxfordshire District Council, has agreed to an extension to the opening season this year. The Riverside outdoor pool and splash pad in Wallingford will now stay open a week later than anticipated.

The pool and splash pad would usually close on 1 September. Taking into account the predicted good weather and timing with schools returning, the plan is now to extend the opening until Sunday 8 September to allow everyone more time to make the most of these popular facilities.
