OCC Consultation: Kingston Blount proposed 20mph speed limit

Thursday, 4th Apr 2024/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Oxfordshire County Council is using 20mph speed restrictions to change driving habits; further details on how the council is considering making 20mph the new 30mph for Oxfordshire communities can be found here.

It’s therefore asking for views on the proposal to introduce a 20mph speed within Kingston Blount, replacing the majority of the existing 30mph speed limits in process. Sections of existing 30mph speed limit on the B4009 Crowell Road between Kingston Blount and Crowell, and the existing 50mph speed limit on the B4009 Chinnor Road between Kingston Blount and Aston Rowant will remain in place, with officers having taken the current road environment and traffic usage into account.

The proposals are being put forward following road safety concerns raised by the parish, and form part of a countywide programme of works that seeks to deliver ‘a safer place with a safer pace’ for the residents of Oxfordshire. In light of this please find the following consultation documents attached:

  • Public Notice,
  • Statement of Reasons,
  • Consultation Plan(s), and
  • Draft Traffic Regulation Order(s).

The proposed Traffic Regulation Order is scheduled to be advertised in the Oxford Times newspaper today; Thursday 4th April 2024, and details are also available to view on the Councils consultation portal at the address below:

https://letstalk.oxfordshire.gov.uk/kingstonblount_20mph2024

As stated on the notice, any objections or other representations on the proposal should be submitted by Friday 26th April 2024.

April’s extra garden waste collections

Thursday, 4th Apr 2024/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Residents who are subscribed to the district council brown bin garden waste service in South Oxfordshire or Vale of White Horse can have extra garden waste collected for free, on their normal collection day only, between 15 and 26 April.

You can put out a maximum of up to four additional sacks of garden waste, per brown bin subscription, next to your brown bin.

To be eligible for collection – the extra waste must contain only natural garden waste, such as cut grass, plants or branches and be placed in standard sized (60L) sacks or in boxes / containers totalling no more than a standard bin full. Where possible, please use cardboard boxes as these are much more environmentally friendly than plastic sacks.

Please DO NOT use tonne builders’ waste bags – our crews will not collect any garden waste from these.

All the garden waste collected will be taken to a facility near Wallingford where it is composted.  The compost will then be sold on to local farmers for use on their farmland.

More information about garden waste collections can be found on the South Oxfordshire garden waste page or the Vale garden waste page.

ARCC News

Wednesday, 3rd Apr 2024/in News/by Adam Bernstein
Exciting news, the foundations have been laid for the new pavilion on the bottom field, with the building starting to be erected on Monday 8th April. We have extended the crowd funding deadline to allow donations to continue at present this fund has raised £10,680 plus £1850 in Gift Aid.
Can we gently remind members that subs are due from 1st April. As per donations, please go to club website for details.
Finally the full bar is to reopen on Friday 26th April when junior training restarts. Unfortunately it looks likely that there will be no cricket matches played before this date due to the condition of both grounds after all the wet weather.

Sydenham Fayre

Wednesday, 3rd Apr 2024/in Local Events, News/by Adam Bernstein

Sydenham Fayre is on Saturday 1st June 2024, 12.30pm to 4pm.

A fun family day out including live entertainment, children’s games, dog show, vintage cars, BBQ , tearoom and stalls.

The long-established event, co-ordinated and run entirely by villagers, raises funds for local groups and causes, supporting schools, community organisations and facilities in the surrounding area. Last year it raised over £9,000 for local causes.

Whilst the road through the village will be closed for the day, extensive free parking is available on the edge of the village. Disabled parking will be available.

As a community event, the success of the day relies so much on the enthusiasm of visitors from the neighbouring town and villages…so bring the family and help make Sydenham Fayre a highlight in the village’s calendar.

Polling station work in South Oxfordshire

Wednesday, 27th Mar 2024/in News/by Adam Bernstein

South Oxfordshire District Council is appealing for more people to come forward to work as poll clerks and presiding officers to help run polling stations on Thursday 2 May for the Police and Crime Commissioner Election.

Hundreds of people have already signed up to work at the elections in South Oxfordshire.  However, there are still around 40 vacancies at polling stations across the district and the council needs to confirm arrangements as soon as possible.   Officers are particularly keen to hear from people who are available to work in Henley and the surrounding area.

The following positions are available to those who are 18 or over and entitled to work in the UK:

  • Presiding Officers: (previous experience preferred): £251.00 – Thursday 2 May, 6.15am to 10.30pm
  • Poll Clerks: £200 – Thursday 2 May, 6.15am to 10.30pm

Mark Stone, Returning Officer for South Oxfordshire, said: “We need to fill these roles as quickly as possible, so if you are available on 2 May and interested in working at the elections, please get in touch with our Elections team.”

The council would also welcome expressions of interest from people who would like to hear about job opportunities for the general election which is expected to take place later this year.

For more information, including details on how to apply, visit southoxon.gov.uk/electionjobs or call 01235 422528.

Please note, the council is unable to offer these roles to people who work for or are connected with a political party.

ARCC pavilion update

Thursday, 21st Mar 2024/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Anyone walking down the Moor’s Path to Kingston Blount this week will have seen that work has started on the pavilion on our bottom pitch. The building will be erected the first week in April and finished in May. Can we direct parishioners to the crowdfunding page that we are using to help us pay for the building that will be used by both our junior teams and senior teams.

This crowdfunding page has just eight days to run (closing date March 28th) and so far, we have managed to raise £9,480 with £1,800 of Gift Aid. 38 supporters have made pledges since the page was launched back in February and we’d like to thank every single one of you.

It’s particularly great to see some local residents – some of whom aren’t even club members – donating to the project. In hindsight the £25,000 target may have been a little optimistic but we would have hoped we’d be able to get at least close to £15,000 in total.

Chris Hutton and Jamie Revill have been busy working on the foundations this week. Although they are volunteering their time to carry out the work for free, the club is going to need to start paying for materials soon. We would massively appreciate it if you could dig deep over the next eight days and see if we can raise that £15,000.
