ARCC this weekend

Thursday, 7th Sep 2023/in News/by Adam Bernstein

The league cricket season has now finished with only two more weekends of cricket before the end of season.

On Saturday 8th September is the annual Presidents day with two games on the top field. The first game starts at 10.30 and features the Aston Rowant Cricket Club Legends. The second starts at 1pm is ARCC v Presidents XI.

The bar is open from 12.00 and both games will be followed by the End of Season Ball at Chinnor Rugby Club.

The bar is also open on Friday night.

Next, the new pavilion. Following the successful consultation meeting recently held at the club we have submitted a full planning application, P23/S2916/FUL the details of which are on the parish council website. If you wish to comment the deadline is 25th September. The parish council will discuss this at their meeting next week – 13 September at 1930hrs in the church.

Kop Hill Climb – 16th and 17th September

Wednesday, 6th Sep 2023/in Local Events, News/by Adam Bernstein

Whether you’re a die-hard fan, a casual enthusiast, or someone looking to enjoy a day of family-friendly entertainment, the Kop Hill Climb has something for everyone.

In Princes Risborough, on 16th and 17th September, it’s a unique two day event, organised totally by volunteers.  The wonderful mix of family friendly festival and commemorative hill climb for cars and motorcycles raises funds for local charities and projects.  Help push the amount raised since the event’s revival in 2009 of £977,000 over the £1million mark this year!

So what can you expect from this year’s Festival?  Well if it’s cars and bikes, the hill will be packed with both, with commemorative runs celebrating motoring through the ages from the early 1900’s to the modern day.

This is not just a static display, but history in motion as over 400 cars and bikes each day take on the famous hill in a recreation of its illustrious past.

Although Kop Hill Climb is no longer a competition, and is not timed, it showcases an extraordinary spectrum of motoring history. Why not buy a Grandstand ticket and get a unique vantage point to view all the action on the hill.

In the Paddock you can get up close to the vehicles and drivers, visit the fun fair and ride the dodgems and check out the Soapbox Challenge competition. You can even get a bird’s eye view of the event with a helicopter ride!

Make sure to look to the skies during the lunch break for a thrilling flypast on Saturday of a Spitfire and on Sunday a Lancaster, both courtesy of the BBMF.

With so many things to see and do a break for some food and drink will definitely be in order. Relax in the food court while taking in the sounds of the stage, with a fantastic line up. Then why not browse the many exhibitors and indulge in a spot of retail therapy.

Whether cars and bikes are your thing or not rest assured this year’s Kop Hill Climb Festival is a family affair.

FTTP update

Wednesday, 6th Sep 2023/in News/by Adam Bernstein

It’s been a while since I’ve posted about FTTP in the parish and that’s because that there’s nothing else to say at present and getting hold of my contact at Openreach is very difficult.

I know work is going on behind the scenes: I’ve seen and quizzed engineers outside my home in Aston Rowant who said that they were ‘proving the network’. I’ve also been told by other parishioners in Kingston Blount of Openreach engineers working on FTTP.

We will get it… especially as copper-related telephony sales were halted by Openreach as of yesterday, 5 September.

It’s a waiting game and as soon as I have more – any – information I shall share it.

GP/health services experience survey

Monday, 4th Sep 2023/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Chinnor Parish Council is running a short survey as part of its fight against a planning appeal relating to 150 houses between Chinnor and Sydenham.

Aston Rowant Parish Council was not a statutory consultee to the application, but since many parishioners will use health services in Chinnor this is relevant.

The survey is here.

Historic photos uploaded

Thursday, 31st Aug 2023/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Janet Atkins along with Di Eaton have supplied a number of photos from yesteryear that they collected when writing a book on the history of the parish some years ago. They’ll be uploaded in batches of five every week.

Navigate to Community > History > Historic Images to see what’s new. New batches will be notified via a post on this website which in turn will appear on the weekly newsletter.

ARCC this weekend

Wednesday, 30th Aug 2023/in News/by Adam Bernstein

This is the last weekend of the league season and we have important games for all four teams.

At home we have the second team needing to win to prevent the unlikely prospect of being relegated. They are playing Didcot, at home, starting at 12pm.

On the bottom field we have the fourth team playing Haddenham first team. A win for them would leave them a very creditable third place. The game begins at 12.30.

Away from Butts Way, the first team are away at Finchampton and a win would guarantee them at least fourth place which is important for qualifying for next season’s National Cup.

The third team, who are guaranteed to finish second in their league finish, are at Dinton.

But before that, on Friday night, we have the junior presentation night with player of the season and most improved player awards for the under 9’s,11’s, 13’s and 15’s, The bar and BBQ will be open from 6pm with the awards at 6.30. It will be a good night and all are welcome.

ARCC this weekend

Thursday, 24th Aug 2023/in News/by Adam Bernstein

We are now at the end of the season with only two league games to go.

This weekend the first team are at home to Datchet with the game starting at 11am. Whilst the first team cannot retain their title, they can still finish in their current second place. The game against Datchet – who are currently third – will go a long way to settling who finishes a very creditable second.

The other game at Butts Way is the local derby between our third team and Thame second team. The third team are also second in their league and the visitors are also third. The game starts at noon. Again, this result will be very important in deciding the end of the season final positions.

Aston Rowant second team are away at Buckingham Town while the fourth team are away at Westcott.

Friday night training continues this weekend. Next weekend, which is the last Friday of the season, is also Junior Presentation Night. This starts at 6.30 and is always a memorable night.

Can we also remind that next weekend the final league game of the season is also the last of the Payday Saturdays. More details on both next week.

Historic audio recordings

Tuesday, 22nd Aug 2023/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Many years ago – in the mid-late 1980s – Di Eaton, who lives in Aston Rowant, and Jan Atkins, who lives in Kingston Blount, were researching for a book about the parish. As part of this they held and recorded interviews with selected residents. These recordings and transcripts are now on the website under Community > History > Audio Recordings.

In time, a page with historic images will be populated. It can be found through the same navigation on this site.

ARCC this weekend

Friday, 18th Aug 2023/in News/by Adam Bernstein

The main event of next week is the consultation meeting on Thursday 24 August – see the separate post on this website.

To the cricket itself. With three weekends of league cricket left all four senior teams have plenty to play for. Whilst the weather forecast for Friday is not good it is much better for both Saturday and Sunday.

The 1st team, who are third in the league, are at home to second place Wargrave who are only one point in front of them. This should be one of the games of the season and starts at 11.30 with the bar open from 2pm.

The 2nd team are away at Dinton.

The 3rd team who are second in their league are at home to local rivals Teddington, starting at 12.30.

The 4th team, who despite having 5 games washed out, are fourth and away at Chesterton.

We also have a game on Sunday when Sydenham host Brentham.
