ARCC this week

Friday, 12th Sep 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

The last note of the season.

The cricket league season has now finished and we would like to thank all the parishioners who have supported the club this year. The club remains at the heart of the parish and the support is very much appreciated.

The traditional end of season President’s Day games will, weather permitting, take place on Saturday with two games at the club starting at 10.30; the bar will be open from 11.00 until 19.00ish.

The season ended with some notable results, the third team finished the league with a remarkable record of played 17 won 17, the fourth team won their last game to confirm their promotion. But as well as the senior teams, the success of our junior sides continued with the U11’s, U13’s and U19’s teams all winning their finals. The future of the club on the field looks good.

See you all in 2026.

New waste services number

Tuesday, 9th Sep 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Residents in South Oxfordshire need to use a new number for district council waste and recycling enquiries: 01235 422 123.

The previous number (03000 610 610) is being phased out and will be switched off soon. The new number is already active, so residents should update their records and start using it right away.

01235 422 123 is new number is for all household waste, recycling, food, garden waste (collections only), bulky waste collections, clinical waste collections and street cleaning services. It is also the number to call to report fly-tipping and abandoned vehicles.

For queries about garden waste permits, residents should continue to call 01235 422 422.

For enquiries relating to Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRC’s), please continue to contact the county council on 0345 310 1111.

ARCC this weekend

Thursday, 4th Sep 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Saturday sees the last weekend of the league season, so come and join us for the celebration as we mark the third team winning their league and the fourth team promotion. The third team title was confirmed the previous weekend but the fourth team clinched their win on Saturday.

But firstly, on Friday we have the junior presentation night which is one of the season highlights. This will take place after the usual training session.

On Saturday, we have both the first and fourth teams travelling to Great Brickhill, whilst the second and third teams are at home to Dinton and Waddesdon respectively.

There is one final cricket weekend – next week – which includes President’s Day; details of this will be given next week.

Anonymous letters

Monday, 1st Sep 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

In recent weeks the parish council has received several anonymous letters with regard to the foliage extending beyond a given property’s boundary in the parish.

The landowner is aware of the issue and has organised contractors to clear the foliage week three of this month.

However, the bigger issue – at least as far the council is concerned – is that the letters were sent to me, as the chairman, anonymously.

I am not a fan of anonymous letters or the like unless someone feels personally at risk or threatened; consequently, if someone has a point of view that they wish to air they should make their comment and be identifiable. It’s worth pointing out that letters received will not be made public.

But by definition of being anonymous these letters cannot be responded to.

I need to state that all correspondence must be sent to the clerk as the ‘proper officer’ of the council – her details are on this website via the ‘contact the council’ tab on the home page.

That’s not to say that residents cannot or should not contact individual councillors informally over matters of concern; but correspondence does need to be sent to the clerk.

As the matter is in hand, and the letters are anonymous, the council will not be taking any action.

Emergency Alert test

Friday, 29th Aug 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

The UK government is testing the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm. Compatible mobile phones and tablets will receive an alert, make a loud siren-like sound and vibrate. You will not need to take any action. The Emergency Alerts system is used to warn if there’s a danger to life nearby, including extreme weather. Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it need to be used in a life-threatening emergency.

Find out more at gov.uk/alerts.
