Still time to object to a planning application

Thursday, 24th Jul 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

There’s still time to object to the planning application on the B4009 / Aston Rowant Road junction – comments must be in by 28 July.

This is an application (in principle) for one house on a field that can take multiple dwellings. There’s a reasonable risk of other fields seeing homes being built on them if the application is granted.

The parish council has objected; residents can read more here.

FTTP is coming to the parish!

Tuesday, 22nd Jul 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Neither I or the parish council can take credit for this – despite the efforts we put in a couple of years ago – but it looks like FTTP from Openreach is close to being provided to homes in the parish.

Take a look here and see what it tells you. I’ve tested a number of addresses in the parish and they’re close to being upgradable.

Finally…

ARCC this weekend

We have reached the halfway point of the league season and all four senior teams are in contention.
The first team who are fifth in the Premier League have the difficult task of playing the league leaders away at High Wycombe.
The second team, who are fourth, are at home to Buckingham Town first team starting at 12.30 and will be looking to extend their recent good results.
The third team are unbeaten, and top of their league having a 100% winning record in the first half of the season, host Wolvercote second team also from 12.30.
The fourth team who are second in their league are away to East Oxford third team. But the weather forecast is not good for Saturday so fingers crossed.
Friday night will, weather permitting, host the usual junior training and bar.

OCC energy efficiency grants

Tuesday, 15th Jul 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

A note from OCC:

“We are dedicated to helping Oxfordshire households on a low income improve the energy efficiency of their homes, lower their bills, and reduce their carbon footprint.

We have been able to secure government-backed Warm Homes Local Grant funding to install energy efficient measures such as insulation, solar panels and heat pumps in residents’ homes.”

There’s more information here on eligibility and how to apply.

ARCC this weekend

Thursday, 10th Jul 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein
It was a very successful time for the cricket club last weekend. On Saturday all four senior teams won their games, for the second time this year. This left both the third and fourth teams top of their leagues. But the real success was on Sunday when the third and fourth teams won their respective cup games. So all six games were won – a very rare event.
This weekend as well as the normal Friday night junior training, we have the first team and third team at home to Oxford Downs first team and Thame fourth team. The second team are away at Oxford Downs and the third team at Middlleton Cheney.
Finally two dates to take note of, On Sunday 26th July the club will host a girls  U11 soft ball competition and on Sunday 3rd August, the fourth team will play the final of their cup competition, details of both to follow.

Another *new* planning application on B4009

Thursday, 10th Jul 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

There’s another application that has just been lodged with SODC. It’s for planning permission in principle for “a phased development of 1 self-build dwelling” at the junction of the B4009 and Aston Rowant Road. The application reference is P25/S1830/PIP.

The council is objecting for a number of reasons including the expansion of the village footprint with scope to – potentially – lead to more building on the same field and also on other neighbouring green fields, likely access via a busy junction adjacent to a chicane, and prior flooding of the land.

The deadline to lodge comment is Monday 28 July.

The site was previously rejected by the Planning Inspectorate in 2019 because of the inappropriateness of the location, lack of sustainability and lack of facilities. Nothing has changed.

Please see the flyer below and object by visiting the application here or by sending an email to citing P25/S1830/PIP.

This is an issue for the parish as a WHOLE – we are all bounded by green space. The council needs your help to protect the parish boundary.

Woodway Farm planning application – extra time

Thursday, 3rd Jul 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Because of a recent systems failure, SODC has agreed to give residents another week – to 11 July – to offer comments on the application for seven houses on farm land on the south side of the B4009. Barring farm buildings, the locale has no residential structures.

The application, P25/S1671/O, is here.

Comments can also be emailed to SODC via quoting P25/S1671/0.

The parish council has voted to object to this application and urges residents to do the same.

ARCC this weekend

Thursday, 3rd Jul 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein
It is another busy weekend for the cricket club as we move to the halfway point of the season. The first team are hoping to build on last week’s victory at Henley and are at home to Great Brickhill’s first team. The fourth team will want to continue their promotion challenge – at home – to Great Brickhill’s fourth team.
The second team are away at Dinton while the unbeaten third team travel to Waddesdon – in both games our teams are playing the respective club’s first teams.
On Sunday, we have a cup game at home for the third team who are against Horspath third’s in the Airey Cup – the games starts at 1pm. At the same time, the fourth team are away at Ascott under Wychwood in their cup competition.
Additionally, we have the usual Friday night training with All Stars  for the under 6 ‘s and Dynamo’s specifically for the young girls – this is in addition to the usual junior training. If you have never been to the club on a Friday night I can strongly recommend it; the bar and barbecue will be open as usual.
Lastly, Saturday night is the first Saturday in the month with a Pay Day night party – this week hosted by the first team. The event includes a burger van arriving at 8pm.
Hopefully the weather will not spoil the weekend.
