ARCC News

Friday, 2nd May 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein
It has been a busy week for the club as it builds up to the new league season which starts next weekend on 10 May.
Firstly congratulations to both our teams who progressed in their respective National Knockout Cups. In the ECB National Cup, the first team beat Finchley. And in the Village Knockout, the second team beat a strong Minster Lovell team at its ground.
The next rounds are on Sunday 11th May with the first team at home to Stanmore and the second team away to Great Tew.
This weekend we have the normal junior training on Friday with the bar from 6pm. Tomorrow we host the next round of the Home Counties League T20 competition; there will be three games with the first team playing High Wycombe at 10am, and then hopefully we will play in the final at 4pm.
On Monday we host the Brookes University 6 a-side competition – with games on both fields from 11am onwards. If the weather holds it should be a good weekend of cricket.
The bar will be open in the afternoon of both days.

Parking on Brook Street/Stert Road junction

Friday, 25th Apr 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

The parish council asks residents and visitors to not park on or near the junction of the Stert Road and Brook Street.

A number of parishioners have raised concerns that vehicles parked at this junction significantly reduce visibility for drivers pulling out of (or turning into) Brook Street, creating a safety hazard.

The images below illustrate the problem.

The council reminds road users of the Highway Code.

Rule 242 of the Highway Code says: “You MUST NOT leave your vehicle or trailer in a dangerous position or where it causes any unnecessary obstruction of the road.”

Rule 243 says “DO NOT stop or park … opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space…”

Please don’t risk a traffic offence as the police have been advised of the matter; the local team will be visiting with a view to potentially ticket cars parked dangerously.

Your cooperation helps to keep our village safer for everyone.

ARCC news

Wednesday, 23rd Apr 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein
The cricket season is back, starting this weekend.
Junior training starts this Friday – 25 April – from 6pm; the bar will be open. The training will continue on Friday nights throughout the season.
If you are new to the parish or haven’t been down on a Friday evening we strongly recommend you do, it is the best social evening in the parish; we just hope the weather holds.
Whilst the league season doesn’t start until May 10 there is friendly cricket on Saturday 26 April when a mixed Aston Rowant X1 will play a Harpenden Mixed X1, starting at 1pm.
Can we remind all existing membership that renewal is now due and any one wanting membership can either come on Friday or contact our website astonrowantcricket.com

Burglary in Aston Rowant

Wednesday, 23rd Apr 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Between the hours of 1030 and 1330, Wednesday 23 April, a house in Plowden Park was broken into.

A window was prised open and the house ransacked. Nothing of note was taken; presumably the thieves were looking for cash or cards.

The householder wants to stay private so the parish council can reveal no more.

Please be on your guard for anything suspicious – people or vehicles. Call 999 if a crime is in progress or 101 if not; jot down details of what you have seen while the memory is fresh noting car model, plate and colour and similarly, people descriptions  such as height, hair, clothing and so on.

Don’t hold back – tell the police if something doesn’t seem right.

Remember that we could all be a target if we do not look out for one another.

Easter bin collections

Thursday, 17th Apr 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Bin Collection Changes for Easter

South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC) has advised that due to the public holidays, it will be emptying bins a day later than usual between Good Friday 18 April to Saturday 26 April.

Residents are reminded to recycle cardboard boxes and foil wrapping from Easter eggs, which can all go in the green recycling bin.

However, be sure to remove any soft plastic egg-holders and film windows first. Plastic holders and film must go in the black rubbish bin, or they can be taken them to a supermarket’s soft plastics collection point.

More details are here.

Bus services review

Wednesday, 16th Apr 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Oxfordshire County Council is reviewing the subsidies that it gives a number of bus services including two that serve the parish – the 40 and 275.

Residents who wish to comment need to do so by 25 April.

There is the usual risk that if the subsidies go, then so could the bus services.

See the attachment for more information.

Church Lane planning appeal

Monday, 7th Apr 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Just a reminder to ask residents to consider submitting an objection in relation to this planning permission application at the bottom of Church Lane, Aston Rowant. If granted it would expand the footprint of the parish well beyond its current boundary.

You can submit an objection here using the reference 3361560.

The parish council’s reasons for objecting are here.

Please do so before 21 April.

Remember – the whole parish is surrounded by fields, any one of which could see a planning application for housing.
