Another *new* planning application on B4009

Thursday, 10th Jul 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

There’s another application that has just been lodged with SODC. It’s for planning permission in principle for “a phased development of 1 self-build dwelling” at the junction of the B4009 and Aston Rowant Road. The application reference is P25/S1830/PIP.

The council is objecting for a number of reasons including the expansion of the village footprint with scope to – potentially – lead to more building on the same field and also on other neighbouring green fields, likely access via a busy junction adjacent to a chicane, and prior flooding of the land.

The deadline to lodge comment is Monday 28 July.

The site was previously rejected by the Planning Inspectorate in 2019 because of the inappropriateness of the location, lack of sustainability and lack of facilities. Nothing has changed.

Please see the flyer below and object by visiting the application here or by sending an email to citing P25/S1830/PIP.

This is an issue for the parish as a WHOLE – we are all bounded by green space. The council needs your help to protect the parish boundary.

Woodway Farm planning application – extra time

Thursday, 3rd Jul 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Because of a recent systems failure, SODC has agreed to give residents another week – to 11 July – to offer comments on the application for seven houses on farm land on the south side of the B4009. Barring farm buildings, the locale has no residential structures.

The application, P25/S1671/O, is here.

Comments can also be emailed to SODC via quoting P25/S1671/0.

The parish council has voted to object to this application and urges residents to do the same.

ARCC this weekend

Thursday, 3rd Jul 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein
It is another busy weekend for the cricket club as we move to the halfway point of the season. The first team are hoping to build on last week’s victory at Henley and are at home to Great Brickhill’s first team. The fourth team will want to continue their promotion challenge – at home – to Great Brickhill’s fourth team.
The second team are away at Dinton while the unbeaten third team travel to Waddesdon – in both games our teams are playing the respective club’s first teams.
On Sunday, we have a cup game at home for the third team who are against Horspath third’s in the Airey Cup – the games starts at 1pm. At the same time, the fourth team are away at Ascott under Wychwood in their cup competition.
Additionally, we have the usual Friday night training with All Stars  for the under 6 ‘s and Dynamo’s specifically for the young girls – this is in addition to the usual junior training. If you have never been to the club on a Friday night I can strongly recommend it; the bar and barbecue will be open as usual.
Lastly, Saturday night is the first Saturday in the month with a Pay Day night party – this week hosted by the first team. The event includes a burger van arriving at 8pm.
Hopefully the weather will not spoil the weekend.

Unitary council drop in – 4 July

Tuesday, 1st Jul 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

There are proposals to form new two new unitary councils from the current district councils in the county.

For us, there would be Ridgeway Council formed from South Oxfordshire, Vale of White Horse and West Berkshire councils.

For areas further ‘north’, Oxford & Shires Council would be formed by the amalgamation of Cherwell, West Berkshire and Oxford City councils.

To help explain the proposals, there will be a ‘drop-in’ session at Thame Town Hall on Friday 4 July between 10.30am to 1.30pm.

There’s more information at ridgewaycouncil.org.

Firstly thank you to everyone who helped or attended Rowachella last weekend…
…back to cricket this weekend on what should be wonderful weather to enjoy the sunshine, a social beer and hopefully some good cricket, after junior training on Friday night.
The first and third teams are at home to Banbury and Bletchley Town respectively. Whist the second and fourth teams are away to Didcot and Westcott in their respective leagues.
Good luck to all our teams.

Part-Night Lighting Public Consultation

Tuesday, 10th Jun 2025/in News/by Adam Bernstein

Oxfordshire County Council has opened a public consultation on a proposed Part-Night Lighting Implementation Framework. The consultation is at Part-night lighting and street lighting policy | Let’s Talk Oxfordshire and runs until midnight on Sunday 6th July.

This framework is about how part-night lighting could be implemented in Oxfordshire. It is not about whether part-night lighting is right for specific areas. In September 2025, the council’s cabinet will decide whether or not to move forward with part-night lighting. If the decision is to proceed, it will propose that towns, parishes or Oxford city wards can apply for part-night lighting schemes in their areas and that a public consultation is carried out for each scheme.

While this doesn’t apply greatly to our parish, residents may have a view regardless.
