Blocked Footpath

Sunday, 9th Feb 2020/in News/by clerk

Please be aware there are fallen branches and fence panels across the footpath from Pleck Lane (K.Blount) to the old Shoulder of Mutton pub building/path.

This cannot be cleared until tomorrow (certainly not today while the bad weather is ongoing) , so the path will not be usable during the Monday morning school run, or possibly even the afternoon, depending on when our contractor can arrange to clear the path

Oil top up process is running

Wednesday, 29th Jan 2020/in News/by Adam Bernstein

The oil syndicate process for the parish and other villages is now running; the book closes 0900 on 31 January… with some flexibility for those who are fashionably late… Deliveries expected to be complete by mid-February.

Indicative prices for 500l is 47.5p/l+VAT, but for the syndicate is 41.5p/litre+VAT.

As a reminder to a previous post, there’s no cost to join the syndicate, no extra cost for receiving oil through the syndicate and nor is there any obligation to use the syndicate.

If you’re interested, email the organiser, – ASAP.

Avoid a fly-tipping fine

Wednesday, 22nd Jan 2020/in News/by Adam Bernstein

SODC has just published a story about a man from High Wycombe who was ordered to pay more than £800 after CCTV captured him fly-tipping rubbish on private land in Chalgrove following an investigation and successful prosecution by the council.

The individual – Gavin Stallwood – was interviewed under caution and told officers that he was trying to earn extra cash and had advertised on social media that he could remove waste. He was unable to provide any details of the person who had paid him to take the waste away.

Householders can inadvertently be caught up with a prosecution if they don’t check that waste is being disposed of lawfully. SODC has guidance on how to check at http://www.southoxon.gov.uk/services-and-advice/recycling-rubbish-and-waste/your-recycling-and-waste-collections/waste-removal-h.

PopUp Business School returns to Didcot

Monday, 13th Jan 2020/in News/by Adam Bernstein

The PopUp Business School will be returning to Didcot to run a free five-day course to help anyone thinking about setting up their own business and to advise existing small businesses on how increase profits.

From Monday 27 January, the course will run daily from Monday-Friday, at Didcot Civic Hall at 10am-3pm, and will include tips on marketing, how to create a website, attract more customers through social media and how to shape the business to suit – all without spending any money.

During the informal sessions, trainers help build people’s confidence to kick-start their new venture by teaching them the vital skills on how to set goals and what they can do when faced by new or unexpected challenges.

Last time the PopUp Business School visited Didcot in 2018, 53 people attended, from South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district areas with others coming from further afield from Reading, Witney and Swindon.

Through the week 15 brand-new businesses were created, including a wedding photographer, a vegan fast food retailer, a life coach service and an entertainment hire company and, by Friday afternoon, nearly all had made their first sale.  The other 38 attendees that attended all week were almost ready to kick-start their own enterprise too.

The workshops are being held in partnership with Soha Housing as part of South Oxfordshire District Council’s national award-winning project to support new business start-ups in the southern Oxfordshire area.

You can sign up to attend the school via www.popupbusinessschool.co.uk/didcot
