Christmas is over and its time to dispose of the Christmas tree. Garden Waste subscribers can leave their tree out with the green waste and have it collected by the end of January on the appropriate brown bin day.
Others can take their tree to one of a number of dedicated locations for free disposal.

Thame & Wheatley Ramblers have just published their calendar of walks for January to March 2020.
See the document below for more details.
Chinnor Village Centre is bringing its Christmas Float to the parish next week – on Tuesday 17th December, starting in Icknield Close at 18.00. This year the float is calling house to house, but is restricted to only knocking on doors from 18.00 to 20.00.
The centre is not sure how far Father Christmas will get round the parish given the time restriction. So if any parents in Aston Rowant want their children to definitely meet him it’s recommended that the children are driven round to Icknield Close in Kingston Blount at about 18.05 where Father Christmas will greet them personally.
If anyone wants to join in and shake collecting boxes door to door, that would be appreciated – it is always good to have helpers who are themselves known to villagers.
It’s confusing to know what can and what cannot be recycled. And the matter isn’t helped by inconsistent policies throughout the country.
SODC lists on its website what it can take. There’s also an online tool for those items individuals are unsure about.

From SODC:
Drivers in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse can benefit from free parking in district council car parks on certain days in December.
The annual free parking tradition is provided by South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils to encourage people to shop locally for their Christmas presents. The free parking days allocated to each area are agreed with the individual town councils depending on which day would best suit local traders.
Free Christmas parking days also means people don’t have to pay to park if they wish to catch up with friends and family in the pubs, cafés and restaurants during the festive period.
Drivers will be able to park without paying for a ticket in South and Vale car parks on the following days next month:
South Oxfordshire
Vale of White Horse
On the above days there’s no need to display a ticket.
Parking is also free on a Sunday in many of the council-owned town centre car parks in South and Vale – please check the tariff boards in car parks for further details.

Aston Rowant Cricket Club is holding a Cheese and Wine event in the clubhouse on Sunday 15th December from 1100hrs.
During the event, the annual 200 Club draw for prizes of £100, £50, £50 and £25 will be held.
All are welcome.
Not everyone can pay their Council Tax with ease and there are options for those experiencing problems.
The government has signposted a number via https://www.gov.uk/council-tax-arrears, but in essence, it’s possible to spread payments over 12 months or get a 100% reduction in certain circumstances.
Detail as it applies to SODC can be read at http://www.southoxon.gov.uk/services-and-advice/council-tax-and-benefits/council-tax/council-tax-discounts.
SODC has published the waste and recycling dates for the Christmas period. They are online at http://www.southoxon.gov.uk/services-and-advice/recycling-rubbish-and-waste/your-recycling-and-waste-collections/bank-holiday-co.
Note that the collection dates slip from normal, and between 30 December and 3 January there are no garden waste collections at all.
